20,000 ESL Teaching Jobs

With over 20,000 ESL teaching jobs available monthly, English as a Second Language teachers are in high demand globally. With an Oxford Seminars TESOL/TESL/TEFL certificate in hand, your overseas adventure could be just around the corner. Over 300 websites include more than 20,000 ESL teaching jobs available monthly all around the world.

English is everywhere. Some 380 million people speak it as their first language and another 600 million speak it as their second. A billion are learning it, about a third of the world’s population is in some sense exposed to it, and by 2030, it is predicted almost half of the world will be more or less proficient in it. It is the language of globalization – of international business, politics, and diplomacy. It is the language of computers and the Internet. You’ll see it on posters in Beijing, hear it in pop songs in Tokyo, and read it in official documents in Prague. It is the medium of expression in cabinet meetings in Bolivia. English is now the global language.

Learn About Cultures from Around the World

Teaching ESL abroad has numerous rewards: the chance to learn about other cultures and attitudes; the exposure to interesting characters and lifestyles; the opportunity to earn money while enjoying extensive overseas travels; a feeling of increased independence and self-reliance; a more accurate perception of your own culture and habits; the pleasure of making communication possible for your students; and establishing new rewarding friendships.

Whether you are still in school, have just finished school and are unsure of which career path you should take, or have been in the work force for a number of years and are looking for a change, the experience of teaching English overseas will increase your communication skills, self-assurance, maturity, and knowledge of the world.

Teach ESL with Confidence

Besides increasing your marketability and making your ESL job-hunting task much easier, taking our TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification course will increase your confidence and provide you with a range of skills on how to teach English grammar, reading, writing, listening and pronunciation. As our Course Instructors often stress, “Without adequate preparation, the first week of teaching can be the longest week of your life.” Proper training in teaching ESL goes a long way to increasing your job satisfaction.

“I feel great about my placement.  I am teaching in Northern Thailand… and am really enjoying it. Teaching the secondary students requires a lot of energy but I continue to gain more and more insight into teaching from this experience. I feel like Oxford Seminars did a great job preparing me for this and I continue to refer back to the books and notes that I have from the class. [My instructor] did such an excellent job preparing us and helping me gain the confidence I needed to walk into class my very first day. I have thought about the Oxford course a lot since I’ve been here and am so happy I signed up for it.”

Even in countries where formal TESOL/TESL/TEFL qualifications are not required, teachers who lack a specific grounding in teaching ESL are often at a disadvantage since the jobs they are likely to get will be lower paying ones with schools at the low end of the market. In some countries, such as Malaysia and Turkey, TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification is a prerequisite for obtaining a work visa.

Our intensive course is well-organized and challenging, designed for students who wish to maximize their competitive position in the ESL marketplace. It is the most effective, up-to-date TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification course available, with instructors focused on helping you build the skills you need to master ESL teaching within a creative and productive learning environment.

Industry Acronyms

The commonly used industry acronyms TESOL, TESL, TEFL, EFL, and ESL can be confusing, especially since they are often used interchangeably. The acronyms stand for:

  • TESOL – Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
  • TESL – Teaching English as a Second Language
  • TEFL – Teaching English as a Foreign Language
  • EFL – English as a Foreign Language
  • ESL – English as a Second Language

The main difference between these acronyms is the part of the world in which the term is used (i.e., in Europe, English is commonly referred to as a foreign language whereas in the US and Canada, English is commonly referred to as a second language). At the end of our course, graduates receive a combined TESOL/TESL/TEFL certificate which is recognized and accepted around the world, and which includes all components of TESOL, TESL, and TEFL teacher training.
