Travel can be expensive, but as an ESL teacher abroad, you have a unique opportunity to make money while you travel. Depending on where you teach, you may be able to cut your travel costs and save money!<\/p>\n

If one of your goals for teaching English abroad is to save money, ask yourself these five questions when you are researching ESL teaching destinations.<\/p>\n

1. Are accommodations included?<\/h2>\n

\nWhether you\u2019ve just decided to teach English abroad, or you\u2019ve already started applying to jobs overseas, it\u2019s important to think about where you\u2019re actually going to live once you\u2019re abroad. This is especially true if you\u2019re hoping to save a bit of money.<\/p>\n

Housing varies widely around the world, and depending on where you decide to teach ESL, your options will vary as well. The good news for the frugal ESL teacher is that you may be able to find a teaching contract that covers or subsidizes the cost of your housing.<\/p>\n

With housing costs paid by your employer, you may only be responsible for utilities and internet, leaving you with a lot more money at the end of the month. What exactly is included will be outlined in your contract when you accept an ESL teaching position abroad.<\/p>\n

The school\u2019s ability to pay for your housing will depend on the country you\u2019re teaching in and the school itself. ESL teaching positions in countries like China<\/a> and South Korea<\/a> often include housing in their contracts, and positions that do not include housing may compensate with a higher salary.<\/p>\n

2. Is airfare included?<\/h2>\n
