Our TESOL/TEFL Teacher Training Certification Course is dynamic, interactive, and taught by experienced instructors who provide continuity in the learning process as you advance from one teaching skill to the next. Please Note: TESOL, TEFL, and TESL are widely interchangeable terms which essentially mean the same thing. Each of these terms is most commonly used in a different part of the world. At the end of our 60-hour in-class course, graduates receive a combined TESOL/TEFL/TESL certificate which is recognized and accepted around the world (and which includes all components of TESOL, TEFL and TESL teacher training).

Additional Curriculum Details

 Second Language Acquisition
Introduction to second language learning; characteristics of a good language learner; contrastive analysis and error correction; teaching approaches; special consideration for teaching children, adolescents and adults. These topics are discussed over Day One and Day Two of the course.

 Classroom Practicalities
Planning and Managing the ESL Classroom- warm-ups; planning guidelines; initial language assessment; lesson planning elements; lesson plan templates; classroom management/discipline; teaching across proficiency levels. Along with Second Language Acquisition, Classroom Practicalities are covered during Day One and Day Two of the course.

 Teaching Listening
Myths about listening; strategies to enhance listening ability; sources of listening material (DVD’s/songs/videos); suggested exercises; evaluating listening comprehension; listening for tags and key words. All skills involved in language learning and teaching are examined in Day Three and Day Four.

 Teaching Speaking
Focus on oral/aural English competencies; speaking for social interaction; following and giving directions. Other forms of speaking skills targeted include: pronunciation, pace, stress, sounds and accents.

 Teaching Reading
Choosing and using appropriate ESL reading materials (such as children’s picture books); pre-reading and post-reading strategies and skills.

 Teaching Structure and Writing
Teaching context-appropriate writing styles; the place of formal grammar teaching; review of grammatical structures; communicative grammar practice; categories of classroom writing; writing at different levels.

 Integrating the Four Skills
Theoretical background: approaches to teaching the four skills (content –based teaching; task –based teaching; theme-based teaching); overview of approaches for integration.

 Materials in the Classroom
Textbook assessment; visual aides (pictures, flashcards, charts, realia); technology (audio, video, computers); drama and role-plays; games.

 Job Search Skills and Practicum
How to write a TESOL/TEFL resume and cover letter, interview tips, negotiating a contract, culture shock, what to expect of your first week teaching, a practice teaching component and a detailed critique and evaluation. These components of the course are covered on Day Five and Day Six.

California Education Code (CEC) Article 9.5

In accordance with the provisions of California Education Code (CEC) Article 9.5, Oxford Seminars’ TESOL/TEFL Teacher Training Certification Course is a registered educational service (school code: 32878408) with the State of California.

Student Tuition Recovery Fund

The State of California created the Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF) to relieve or mitigate economic losses suffered by California residents who were students attending schools approved by, or registered to offer Short-term Career Training with the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (Bureau).

You may be eligible for STRF if you are a California resident, prepaid tuition, paid the STRF fee, and suffered an economic loss as a result of any of the following:

1. The school closed before the course of instruction was completed.
2. The school's failure to pay refunds or charges on behalf of a student to a third party for license fees or any other purpose, or to provide equipment or materials for which a charge was collected within 180 days before the closure of the school.
3. The school's failure to pay or reimburse loan proceeds under a federally guaranteed student loan program as required by law or to pay or reimburse proceeds received by the school prior to closure in excess of tuition and other costs.
4. The school's breach or anticipatory breach of the agreement for the course of instruction.
5. There was a decline in the quality of the course of instruction within 30 days before the school closed, or if the decline began earlier than 30 days prior to closure, a time period of decline determined by the Bureau.
6. The school committed fraud during the recruitment or enrollment program participation of the student.
You may also be eligible for STRF if you were a student that was unable to collect a court judgment rendered against the school for violation of the Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education Reform Act of 1989.

You must pay the state-imposed fee for the Student Tuition Recovery Fund (STRF) if all of the following applies to you:

1. You are a student, who is a California resident and prepays all or part of your tuition either by cash, guaranteed student loans, or personal loans and;
2. Your total charges are not paid by any third-party payer such as an employer, government program or other payer unless you have a separate agreement to repay the third party.

You are not eligible for protection from the STRF and you are not required to pay the STRF fee if either of the following applies:

1. You are not a California resident,
2. Your total charges are paid by a third party, such as an employer, government program or other payer, and you have no separate agreement to repay the third party.

Notice Concerning Transferability of Units at our School

In accordance with the provisions of California Education Code (CEC) Article 9.5, units you earn in our TESOL/TEFL Teacher Training Certification Course in most cases probably will not be transferable to any other college or university in the future even though you earned units here at our school. In addition, if you earn a diploma or certificate in our TESOL/TEFL Teacher Training Certification Course, in most cases it probably will not serve as a basis for obtaining a degree at a college or university.

Pursuant to California Education Code (CEC) Section 94931, this educational service or program is new. We are not able to tell you how many students graduate, how many find jobs, or how much money you can earn after finishing this program.

Any written contract or agreement signed by a prospective student shall not become operative until the student attends the first class or session of instruction.
